Skijoring Spectacular

So you’re a big skijoring fan, eh? Or perhaps you just recently learned about it? In any case, this year’s rendition of the Big Sky Skijoring Festival, dubbed the "Best in the West Showdown," is all set to kick off on Friday, February 3 and go through the evening Sunday, February 4. And for those who don’t know, skijoring is the act of skiing while being pulled by an animal. In this case, it’s behind a horse—barreling across a race course with jumps, berms and a live shark tank. Okay... it's not a "shark tank" per se, but there is a hot-tub jump, and $15,000 in prizes. Plus, there’s a lot more than just equestrian excitement on the docket. The Big Sky Skijoring Association has been putting on the show since 2018, so it’s fair to say they have things pretty dialed.

This year’s festival, the sixth annual iteration, has it all and some. Beyond the racing, there will be a snowmobile expo where you’ll see some of the best snowmobile riders in the area get huge air and do incredible tricks. Top it all off with a party at Tips Up that evening, featuring live music. Then run it all back the next day. This is sure to be a weekend to remember, so don’t miss out. Get your tickets here.

When you're not watching skiers in tow, there's plenty else to do around town in Big Sky. There are tons of great food options and other things to explore while out and about . Just cruise into town center and see what catches your eye. There are neat shops all around to suit whatever you fancy. One such store is the Trove which has a little something for everyone, including some sweet skijoring merch!
