Cutting loose at the Rendezvous Music Festival.

There ain't much better than a spring-skiing road-trip to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. And when you throw in free music at their Rendezvous Music Festival, you can all but guarantee a weekend for the ages.

Each spring for the past several years, Jackson Hole has brought music lovers and ski bums together for an annual rendezvous (you could say the festival is aptly named). Last year's lineup consisted of recognizable and well-known bands such as Jamestown Revival, the Head and the Heart, and Mt. Joy. As my friends and I packed up our cars, we were eager for the skiing ahead, and for the chance to listen to something other than the same old acts each week at the local watering hole. But first, we had to get there.

The combination of fireworks, bright lights, great music, and snowfall made for a uniquely magical experience.

We hit the road after work on Thursday night, giddy with excitement. The four-hour drive flew by as we cruised through Island Park, Ashton, Driggs, and Victor. When we finally reached Teton Pass, we took turns queuing up our favorite tunes from the headlining musicians. Soon we arrived in Teton Village and began settling into our mountainside accommodation. (If you plan on making the trip, and you’re looking for discounts on lodging and lift tickets, be sure to check out the Ski and Stay options.)

Take the gondola for a quick ride up the mountain

Since we were staying just around the corner from the resort, it was easy to beat the crowds, and we wasted no time getting on the mountain. We geared up bright and early, hopped onto the Bridger Gondola, and hit the slopes. Conditions were great—spring snow, bluebird skies, and incredible views of the Tetons.

After a great day on the mountain, we transitioned from ski boots to cowboy boots and headed to town for the first night of the festival. The town was electric, with revelers bundled in ski jackets atop their concert attire: bold patterns, loud colors, fun glasses, and plenty of glitter. Everyone was ready for a night of live music under the stars. Ullr had different plans, though, and snow piled atop our heads and the brims of our hats all night. The music didn’t disappoint, and the stoke was palpable.

Saturday morning greeted us with lingering clouds from the night before, but that didn’t dampen our spirits. Fresh snowfall from the previous day had left behind some stashes of powder, and we were determined to find them. The conditions were excellent for those willing to explore, and we were rewarded for our efforts. The mountain buzzed with excitement from the night before and anticipation for another evening of fun. As afternoon approached, we called it a day to enjoy aprés bevvies and a bite at the Mangy Moose before heading back to our room. Tonight, the music would be up in Teton Village—right outside the front door of our lodge.

Everyone was in a great mood and ready for a one-of-a-kind night, the excitement exceeding last night's. When the bands got rolling, a combination of fireworks, bright lights, great music, and even more snowfall made for a uniquely magical experience. It was the ultimate way to cap off our weekend getaway in Jackson Hole—celebrating music and mountains in one of the coolest, most beautiful places on Earth.

Sunday morning rolled around before we knew it, and just like that, the weekend had come to an end. The drive back to Bozeman was filled with laughter, reminiscing about our favorite moments, and planning our return for next year. It was an experience we wouldn’t soon forget—an unrivaled 48 hours of downhill adrenaline, music, and mountain magic.
