Review: Infinity X1 Camp Light

Sometimes the coolest products come from companies you've never heard of. Take Infinity X1, for example. A couple years ago, I came across their Hybrid Power Flashlight, which is brighter than any other handheld flashlight I've owned. Now it's essential gear for all camping trips, and I use it around the yard at night, all year long.

So I kept my eye on Infinity X1, and sure enough, they released other impressive items, one after the other. The latest is their 2000L Campsite Light ($45), a nifty telescoping torch that I didn't know I needed until I had it. Now I can't go camping without it—and like my flashlight, it comes in handy at home, too.

For standard lantern-style illumination, place it on a picnic table or tree stump. When you need a larger area lit up, extend the pole and cast light across a wider area. It'll brighten an entire tent for reading or playing cards, either from the top of the pedestal or detached and hung from the ceiling. Gotta go in the middle of the night? It'll brighten up the campsite so you don't stub your toe getting to the nearest tree. No more fumbling for a headlamp under your sleeping bag; just leave the Campsite Light set up and ready to switch on, for your piggy-protecting convenience.

On top of all that, you can manage the light—on, off, brightness level—by remote control, which attaches magnetically to the base so you don't lose it. How cool is that? Available at Costco.
