Only Natural
The writing on the wall.
Gallatin’s gold, Jefferson’s green, Madison’s
blue-blooded ripples of white, named after
founding fathers, these rivers mother us
through our small town lives until high-rises
start to rise. Then it’s back to the money
that peoples our streets, and it’s back to
the people whose faces grace our money.
Gallatin was, after all, Secretary of the Treasury,
so if money turns his river to crap, it’s only
natural. Washington doesn’t care. He
doesn’t have a river here. What’s
Big Sky’s sewage to him? Gallatin
isn’t on any bill. His gold has
turned to sludge, expensive sludge.
