Review: Altra Lone Peak 9
Finding the Goldilocks of running shoes can be a challenge. Over the years, I’ve tried all kinds, most of which are too narrow, too tight, or too stiff. Collectively, these complaints led me to the Altra Lone Peak 9, which has remedied every one of them. The Lone Peak is the flagship trail-runner from Altra—a company that's earned a reputation for making minimalistic zero-drop shoes with roomy toe boxes. The shoes took a little getting used to, but after wearing them for a few weeks, there’s no going back. Their stability on the trails is tough to match, and the traction provided by the grippy outsoles keeps me firmly connected to the dirt. Aside from running, I’ve found the shoes to be comfortable for everyday wear around town, and for gym workouts—thanks to the neutral position in which they keep my feet. Finally, with six color options and plenty of half-size options, there’s something for everyone. Even Goldilocks could find the right shoe. Available at altrarunning.com; $140.
