Review: Sweet Protection Wanderer II
On a recent paddling trip, I realized that I had been using the same whitewater helmet since I was ten. It had been with me through it all—from learning to roll to dropping waterfalls—but it was time for a change. I knew that I needed something that would offer me more protection than my previous helmet, and I wanted to find something that was built to last. As I researched for a suitable replacement, the Sweet Protection Wanderer II stood out as the obvious choice.
Even though we just met, the Wanderer feels like an old friend. It fits just right and stays put. The helmet comes with plenty of adjustability and doesn’t shift even in the toughest conditions, keeping my noggin secure beneath the renowned durability that Sweet Protection helmets are known for. No matter what the water throws at me—or what I throw myself in to—I know it will perform consistently, and I’m a more confident boater for it.
The forehead strap design doesn’t play well with sunglasses, but it does double as a splash guard, which I’ve come to appreciate on colder days. That’s the kind of thoughtful detail that makes a big difference, and Sweet Protection has delivered far beyond my expectations. All said, if you’re looking for peace of mind at a reasonable priced, be sure to check out the Wanderer II.
Available online at sweetprotection.com or locally at Northern Lights; $130.
