Review: Double Rainbow DW Ultra Tent

The Tarptent Double Rainbow DW Ultra is impressive for a two-person shelter. The Ultra TNT fabric is absolutely waterproof and excels at shedding wind. I had the pleasure of using this tent in a storm and was impressed with its overall performance. Once the vestibule was buttoned up, the rain and wind were kept out, leaving a dry space in which to ride out the storm.

The Double Rainbow uses high-quality materials that feel durable. I found carbon-fiber pole to be both light and strong. The tent can be set up semi-freestanding by staking out the corners, or you can set it up fully freestanding with trekking poles between the corners (in sleeves sewn into the corner straps). I opted for the semi-freestanding setup, and the tent was easy to pitch.

This is a feature-rich shelter that pays attention to detail. With cross-ventilation panels, magnetic ties, porch mode, and multiple canopy configurations, there are many ways to personalize the experience. The exterior vestibules and the optional Rainbow Roost provide even more storage options. The tent itself is quite large for one person and will fit two large, wide pads for you and a friend. Configured with the carbon fiber pole, stuff sack and tent stakes, the tent weighs around 40 ounces, which is impressive for a two-person tent.

If you're in the market for a two-person tent, the Double Rainbow DW Ultra is a truly great, feature-rich option that's worthy of consideration.
