Review: Altra Timp Hiker GTX

For long days on the trail after a storm, I know I can count on the Timp Hiker GTX from Altra. It’s a midweight, ankle-height boot that provides the support I need to navigate comfortably and confidently. The Vibram sole is especially apt in even the most unstable terrain, helping me conquer everything from muddy trails to slippery creek crossings to rock fields with ease. The Gore-Tex build of the shoe is particularly helpful in soggy conditions, and it offers better cushioning than other midweight hiking boots I’ve tried. I particularly appreciate Altra’s classic wide toe box for longer treks, as it gives my feet room to breathe without letting them slide around in the shoe. Nope, when these bad boys are laced up, I’m as secure as can be without putting my feet through a sadistic foot-binding procedure. Before I switched over to Altra’s, I’d always trade my hiking boots for flip flops as soon as I got back to the trailhead, but these days I find myself driving all the way home before I even loosen the laces.
