Book: Stepping Up
The Ridge at Bridger Bowl demands respect. Pointing your skis down any old run can and will put you in way over your head, or cliffed out crying for your mother. Stepping Up (stepping-up.net, $16), by Tavis Campbell and Sam Cox, now in its 2nd edition, gives Bridger skiers a detailed description of every line on the Ridge, conveniently divided into four sections (A-D). Each line has an overview photo showing you where to go as well as information on how to access it. Along with some of the more harrowing runs you will even find tales of first descents and early mishaps. While this book is no subsitute for experience, it is a great way to familiarize yourself with the area before you take the stairway to heaven. Its comprehensive coverage also helps more experienced Ridge Rats break out of the Bridger Gully rut and find new places to ski. For seasoned veterans, Ridge rookies, and anyone in between, this thorough guidebook delivers the necessary information to help you navigate the fabled Bridger Ridge with safety and confidence.
