Review: Sunnyland Snacks

Snacks are essential out there in the autumn woods, especially as the temps drop and you need more fuel throughout the day. If you want a break from the same old trail mix and protein bars, check out Sunnyland Farms. They've got a plethora of snack options to fuel any outdoor excursion, and they all taste way better than the usual suspects you pick up at the grocery store.

First up is Sunnyland's trademark offering: pecans. These tasty nuts are large and loaded with calories, so a baggie-full will keep you going when hunting, hiking, or biking. We tried the Pecan Halves Toasted & Salted ($53) and the Extra Spicy Pecans ($47), both in the gift-tin size, and were impressed with the flavor. Plus, they keep well, so you can keep a ziplock in your pack, digging in each day until it's empty. Which probably won't be long—they taste that good.

Next up is the Fruit Compote ($50, again in the gift-tin size), which provides a nice carbohydrate balance to the high-protein pecans. The semi-dried peaches, pears, apricots, and prunes are all moist, flavorful, and supremely satisfying—basically, you get all the bennies of fresh fruit without the costs, namely extra space & weight in the pack or the sticky juice all over your face & hands. When sealed properly, the fruit lasts a long time; so again, just throw a baggie in your pack and keep it there.

Last but not least is the Nut Butter Duo Home Box ($57), which includes a jar of Cashew Butter and a jar of Pecan Butter, both of which make a tasty deviation from the standard PB&J, a staple lunch for outdoor enthusiasts. They're also great for those who want to avoid the high sugar content of most peanut butter.
