Review: Princeton Tec Impulse Key Light
If you need a compact light for those late-evening hatches, but don’t want to add more bulk to your already-burgeoning fly vest, look no further than the Impulse from Princeton Tec. This handy, high-powered LED keylight has five different settings (low, medium, and high beam plus fast & slow strobe) and comes with two interchangeable attachments—one for a ball cap, and one for a keyring or vest loop. Both clips detach quickly and easily, so swapping out’s a snap. The hat clip rotates so you can move the light, rather than your head, when tying on flies or new leader after dark. Burn time is 12-36 hours, depending on setting, and the 10,000-hour LED will outlast most of your fishing gear. At only 15 bucks apiece, you may want to pick up a couple of these babies—they’re also great for reading in the tent and finding the keyhole on your car door on those dark autumn nights.
