Review: Outdoor Research Echo Long Sleeve

Long sleeve baselayers come in all types of fabric—from fleece-like to wool to ultralight. I’ve worn most, and the Echo Long Sleeve from Outdoor Research stands above the rest. It’s made from a lightweight nylon fabric stitched into a waffle grid pattern—similar to that of a waffle fleece, but much lighter and more breathable. It wicks moisture well and is comfy on the skin. But the real dealbreaker? The shirt comes in an off-white, “pebble” color, which I prefer over camouflage when late-season bow hunting or rifle hunting in the snow. It might not be perfect a perfect color match, but it sure beats a bright blue shirt, or even the more popular camo patterns from hunting-specific brands when it comes to blending in with fresh snow. This year, the Echo is sure to be the first shirt I grab, whether it be for spring trail runs, summer bike rides, or fall hikes with bow in hand. Available at outdoorresearch.com; $52.
