Review: Cabela's Thermal Zone

Whether skiing, sledding, or ice climbing, a good base layer can turn the dreaded plea of “Can we go home?” into a euphoric “Let’s go again!” Utilizing its military-grade Extended Cold Weather Clothing System, Cabela’s now offers Thermal Zone tops and bottoms for all of your favorite winter activities. The multi-colored fabric is tight but still offers insulation, keeping you warmer than those other spandexy base layers. The thumb loops are a bit of a turn-off, but the embarrassment wasn’t so bad that I wouldn’t wear the top. My favorite feature was the cool design—I was able to strip down to the base layer at the ski-lodge bar without looking like a lycra-clad lunatic. $80-$90 each; cabelas.com.
