Review: Arc'teryx Sentinel Jacket

Choosing a ski jacket these days is no easy task. You have to take into account: pricing, style, functionality, durability, sustainability—the list goes on and on. Personally, though, my first priority is warmth, with comfort as a close second. The Acr'teryx Women's Sentinel Jacket blends these two elements seamlessly.

In my years of sifting through used ski jackets, I have yet to find an insulated coat that fits comfortably over my base layers like the Sentinel does. The jacket has a hard-shell exterior, but features light insulation, providing warmth without bulk to keep me protected from all kinds of weather.

Waterproof and wind resistant, the Sentinel can tackle the whole gamut of ski conditions. For heavy snow days, the jacket has a powder skirt and helmet-compatible hood. Unlike most other hoods, it fits snugly over my head but doesn't restrict peripheral vision at all. The jacket also has long pit zips, which offer quick ventilation when skiing in warmer, bluebird conditions.

The jacket is on the pricier side, but thanks to its high-quality fabric and design (not to mention the company's great warranty policy), I don't anticipate needing another ski coat for a long time. Available at arcteryx.com; $750.
