If you’re interested in fatbiking, check out our in-town options. The Southwest Montana Mountain Bike Association (SWMMBA), an International Mountain Bike Association chapter, is hoping to offer additional groomed singletrack in town this winter.

As of this writing, fatbikes are allowed on the following snow-covered Gallatin Valley trails and areas: Main Street to the Mountains trails, the East Gallatin Recreational Area, Cherry River, National Forest Service trails where permitted, snowmobile trails (with permit purchase), and roadways.

All of SWMMBA’s trail advocacy and maintenance requires considerable work and partnerships with public and private entities, so be a good steward of fatbiking and don’t poach trails or restricted areas closed to bicycles. To get involved and volunteer, email [email protected].
