Review: Duracell 5000L Tri-Powered Lantern
Gone are the days of crappy lanterns, trying to light wicks that invariably fall off and crumble. And now, gone are the more modern, battery-powered lights that run out of juice and leave you in the dark. Duracell's 5000L ($35), like its predecessor the 3000L, ushers in a new era of reliable illumination. Top off the rechargeable battery at home or in the car with a USB-C cable, which should last a night or two of standard use. Let the solar panel charge it back up during the day. Should it cloud over and you stay up late, four D batteries will kick in to get you through the night.
As if the triple redundancy wasn't enough, the 5000L has all the usual lantern features: multiple brightness settings, a hanging hook, a USB output for charging devices, and a red light for low-impact illumination and preserving night vision. All for a paltry $35—at that price, might as well pick up two or three.
Available at Costco.
