Review: Sea to Summit Spark Sleeping Bag

When I started looking for a new sleeping bag, I had one goal: find something ideal for backpacking and bike-packing. My old sleeping bag basically filled my entire backpack, so I wasn’t just chasing weight savings. The Sea to Summit Spark Women’s Down Sleeping Bag ended up solving that problem so well it’s now the bag I bring on every overnight, from backcountry trips to river floats and even car camping.

At 5'8", I went with the long size. It gives me enough room to stretch out without feeling restricted, especially when I’m layered up. The first thing that really stood out was how comfortable it is for how absurdly small it packs down. It disappears into a pack or dry bag, which makes it just as easy to bring on a quick overnighter as a multi-day trip.

On cowboy camping nights, I’ve been especially impressed. The DWR-treated shell and moisture-resistant hood and footbox fabrics do a solid job at shedding dew and light moisture. I can cowboy camp out on a dewy Montana evening and the moisture doesn’t seep into the bag.

For something that started as a backpacking and bike-packing bag, it’s turned into the one I reach for every time I head out the door. I’ve started neglecting my other sleeping bags so much that it might be time to consolidate down to just this one.
