Review: Survival Mode Bars

At O/B, we're not preppers, per se, but we do like to be prepared for the worst, because every once in a while, the worst happens. So when Roundhouse Provisions sent us some Survival Mode Emergency Ration Bars, we happily stashed a few in our vehicles and emergency kits. And of course, we took a few for sampling, so we knew what to expect when the time came. Here's what the crew had to say about these calorie-rich superfood bars.

This bar nicely stashes away in a backpack or first-aid kit for when you really need it. The packaging is robust and highly resistant to damage, so the bar will stay preserved for as long as it takes for you to cave and bite into it. It's packed with calories to carry you through what lies ahead—whether that’s back to the trailhead, through the storm, or out of the woods. —Jack

If you find yourself dog-tired, hungry, and trying to motivate for an evening workout, this bar will do the trick. Munching on it gave me the energy boost I needed to hit the iron. Oh—you’ll want some water to wash the bar down. It’s tasty, but a little dry. —Eli

These remind me of the dessert bars from my old army days, which I and my platoon-mates would fight over. Although dry and crumbly, they're sweet and tasty, too, and loaded with nutrients for full restoration of energy. I like that these bars will last a few years in my bug-out bag, and that they'll keep me going for a day or more if it ever comes to that. I also keep one in my hunting pack—it could really save the day on a long, arduous pack-out. —Mike
