Review: Montana Decoy Co. Back Country Elk
“Damn, that’s a good lookin’ butt” is my hunting buddies’ consensus on Karen—the affectionate nickname for our Back Country Elk cutout from Montana Decoy Co. Indeed, come September, Karen is the talk of the town in the hills around Bozeman. Based on an actual picture of an elk, she’s the ultimate deception tool. This fabric decoy folds down to the size of a small dinner plate for easy storage, but explodes in seconds into a life-size elk butt, complete with a metal stake to anchor the decoy into the ground. There’s certainly a time and a place for Karen to work her magic—say, when a big bull stops warily at 70 yards, looking for visual signs of a mate—but at only a few ounces she can be worth her weight in gold. Whether you just need companionship in the woods or plain old suck at calling elk, consider adding a Karen to your hunting setup. She won’t disappoint.
