Review: Patagonia Black Hole 100L

Bozeman has no shortage of reasons to stay put. But when mud season rolls in, the travel bug gets harder to ignore. This spring, I ventured over to Tanzania to hike Kilimanjaro and needed a solid duffel bag that would not only travel well, but trek well. Enter Patagonia's Black Hole 100L Duffel.

The removable backpack straps make hauling it through airports or trailheads far more manageable. Inside, two mesh zip pockets and a long internal pocket keep gear from disappearing into the abyss— a small but critical detail for anyone who's ever turned a duffel inside out searching for socks. When the trip's over, the entire bag stuffs into its own pocket, making it easy to store until the next big expedition. And it even comes in purple— easy to spot on the luggage belt in the usual sea of black bags.

The weatherproof shell proved its worth moving through rain, dust, and forest terrain, taking a beating without showing much wear. Whether I'm chasing peaks across the globe or loading up for your next road trip beyond the Bozone, the Patagonia 100L Duffel is a piece of gear I'll keep reaching for.
