Review: Westcomb Focus LT
Like that annoying friend who wears different outfits for every outdoor activity, I’m an incorrigible rainshell geek. One for the river, one for hiking, one for fishing, one for trail-running… you get the idea. But I may have found salvation in the Focus LT Hoody, a cool new garment from Westcomb that meets all my outdoor requirements in a single shell. This super light, highly packable rainstopper utilizes eVent DVL, a next-generation fabric that is (finally!) both truly waterproof and truly breathable—which means I stay dry even during vigorous exercise. Subtle features like soft fleece on the collar and interior hood-tightening tabs make this jacket’s comfort match its performance. The only drawback is the lone chest pocket—no standard left/right pockets to stuff cold hands into—but I guess the Focus’s sub-nine-ounce weight had to come from somewhere. $280; westcomb.com.
