Review: OR Stretch Rain Jacket

Oh, how I used to dread the rain when out on the trails. My old hand-me-down raincoat would leave me damp and cold, and take hours to dry out afterward. But with Outdoor Research's Stratoburst Stretch Rain Jacket, I no longer fear any forecasted (or surprise) precipitation.

The Stratoburst keeps me dry as a bone and insulated in cold rain, and offers great ventilation when the sun sneaks out and I start to work up a sweat again. It's been a solid sidekick for windy conditions as well, and left me feeling comfortable in heavy wind during a recent run up Sacajawea Peak. The adjustable cuffs and hood paired with the lightweight, stretchy weave make it a great fit for the varying weather conditions of late summer.

In terms of other nice features, you can use the chest pocket as a stuff sack, making it easy to pack the jacket down small for river and backpacking trips. The coat is made of 100% recycled polyester, so it not only looks and feels good, but it's good for the planet as well.

All in all, it's been a lot more fun to play in the rain these days. Available online; $165.
