Review: La Sportiva Blizzard GTX
While southwest Montana's winters are varying more every year, the La Sportiva Blizzard GTX is unmatched in performance for all conditions, and exactly what I look for in a winter running shoe. A slick, four-way stretch gaiter is built directly into the shoe ensuring protection from snow, mud, and scree, while the supreme traction from the aggressive 7mm lugs—integrated with tungsten alloy spikes—keep me glued to the trail at all times. The Blizzard GTX comes with a handy single chord lacing system that provides both lateral and medial support while enabling fine-tuning of the shoe’s fit. The Gore-Tex upper is waterproof, breathable, and flexible, keeping my feet dry and comfy. I have a wide foot and these shoes fit great right out of the box. If you're unable to try them on before buying, I recommend going by the EU sizes, or sizing up a 1/2 size US. Available at Uphill Pursuits and online; $245.
