Review: Artilect Ultralight Merino Shirt

I have never been 100% satisfied with my layering options when I go for a hike. I usually end up too cold when my cotton t-shirt (I know, terrible choice) gets soaked with sweat and refuses to dry. My hunt for the perfect baselayer ended when I got my hands on the Ultralight Merino Sprint Long Sleeve Tee from Artilect. I will no longer suffer from a cold and soggy baselayer, thanks to the moisture-wicking properties of this shirt.

We all know that wool has a reputation for being itchy and restrictive, but this shirt uses a superfine 18-micron wool with flat seams that don't chafe, maximizing comfort and stretch through the entire shirt. The lightweight wool also dries fast—great for sweatier folks like me. The shirt's seams are lined with reflective tape for extra safety on those early-morning or late-evening excursions. Artilect’s wool is from non-mulesed Australian sheep and spun in a Bluesign-accredited facility, which means that producing these garments is friendly on the animals and the environment.

Available online; $75.
