Review: Arc'teryx Cerium Hoody
When I picked up the shipping box, I thought it might be empty—it was that light. But inside was a professional-looking piece of apparel that performed just as impressively. The Arc’teryx Cerium Hoody carries its weight where it matters: in the insulation. With lightweight zippers, pocket linings, and draw-tight cinches, the balance of function and form is spot-on. My favorite feature? The hood sits perfectly on the shoulders when not in use, with no awkward bunching.
If you’re considering one for yourself, you should know that the sizing is true to fit. If you’re typically a medium, it will fit snugly over a base layer. However, I’d recommend going a size up to allow for more layering underneath.
Speaking of layers, when you’re ready to shed the hoody, check the chest pocket—it comes with a built-in stuff sack for compact storage, packing down to about the size of a water bottle. As a lightweight performance layer, you might expect some compromises on durability, but I was pleasantly surprised by the toughness of the material. While I wouldn’t suggest testing its limits recklessly, this jacket held up perfectly after a day of adventurous sledding on Peets Hill. No rips or tears, even after a bit of rough use.
Overall, the jacket is a fantastic layer for just about anything. It fits comfortably and performs in a wide range of conditions. After extensive use, you’ll start to notice the thoughtful details—everything from the stitching to the placement of insulation. The puffy made with sustainable fabrics, and is suited for real-world recreation, where getting a little dirty or wet is inevitable. And speaking of wet conditions, synthetic fill in the cuffs and in the hem resists moisture, so you can take the jacket fishing, too. In short, the Cerium combines lightweight comfort, durability, and functionality, making it a reliable jacket for cold-weather activities.
