World Wetlands Day is celebrated on February 2nd to mark the anniversary of the 1971 adoption of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, which now includes 172 countries that have committed to conservation and wise use of wetlands through local actions and international cooperation.
6:00pm-7:00pm - Meet and greet in the lobby: talk with representatives of organizations involved with water and wetlands in our area and learn about their projects.
7:00pm-8:30pm - Program featuring National Geographic photographer Ronan Donovan with "Beavers to the Rescue" followed by a panel discussion moderated by county commissioner Jennifer Boyer on the role of beavers as well as other aspects of wetland restoration and conservation and how wetlands benefit humans. Panelists include Terry Cunningham (City of Bozeman), Torrey Ritter (Montana FWP), and Erik Anderson (USFS).
Free and open to the public.
Feb 3: Bonfire Gathering & Snowshoe Tour
Indreland Audubon Wetland Preserve starting at 1:00pm
Starting at 1:00pm, come visit your local urban wetland in downtown Bozeman. Bring your own chairs to sit around a fire. Hot cocoa and s'more ingredients will be provided.
If weather permits, SAS board member Frank Marchak will lead a snowshoe tour over frozen areas of the wetland that are not usually accessible.
To join the snowshoe tour, RSVP to [email protected]. There will be some snowshoes available to borrow.
SAS suggests parking at the library and walking to the IAWP as in the attached map.
