As the weather warms in the springtime, and the snowpack generally strengthens, many of us start stepping out into bigger terrain than we ski in mid-winter. This year especially, with an exceptionally thin and weak early-season snowpack, the decision to step out into avalanche terrain is one that will require close attention to detail and observation, and require a high level of intra-group communication, risk management, and decision-making.
