Book: Deadly Yellowstone
With abundant hazards like bears, wolves, cliffy terrain, and boiling-hot cauldrons, there are quite a few ways to die in Yellowstone. But the most dangerous thing of all might be something else entirely: other people. In Deadly Yellowstone: An Original Collection of Tantalizing Western Mystery Tales (Thalia Press, $20), 13 authors try their hands at writing murder-mystery stories, all set in and around the Park. One of the best stories in the collection is penned by O/B contributor Katie Thomas. Her story, “Terraces,” follows a group of young adults living and working summer gigs at the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel. Over the course of only a few weeks, friends and co-workers begin disappearing—and reappearing dead, with mangled, ravaged bodies. Is a ravenous bear on the loose, or is something much more sinister at play? Snag a copy to find out. Just don’t read it on a solo camping trip.
