Livingston Depot Center

Museum of the Rockies: The Museum of the Rockies (MOR) is a world-class museum located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains in Bozeman. MOR features permanent exhibits on dinosaurs, regional and American Indian history, as well as changing exhibits that focus on “bringing the world to Bozeman.” A planetarium features shows on the night sky, and a living history farm on the Museum grounds is home to magnificent Heirloom Gardens. In 2010, the new Explore Yellowstone: Children's Discovery Center opened as a permanent exhibit designed for children up to eight years old. Gallatin Pioneer Museum: On Main St. in Bozeman, this museum features changing exhibits from the history of area agriculture, the history of Bozeman, American Indian exhibits including area maps, the daily life of an early settlement, an extensive gun collection, and more. Headwaters Heritage Museum: This museum in Three Forks contains a vast and fascinating array of artifacts from the Missouri River Headwaters area. An anvil from an 1810 fur trappers' trading post at the Headwaters, Montana's largest brown trout weighing in at 29.5 pounds, an extensive barb wire collection, a dugout canoe used in a Lewis and Clark TV documentary, and a log cabin from Gallatin City, built in the 1860s, are but a few of the interesting exhibits. Yellowstone Gateway MuseumDiscover the history of Park County in Livingston through a variety of exhibits on display in a three-story 1906 schoolhouse on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum highlights the history of Yellowstone National Park, illustrates early peoples of the area including native cultures and the railroad industry’s role in westward expansion, and Livingston as the original gateway to YNP. Crazy Mountain Museum: The small but well-organized Crazy Mountain Museum houses exhibits on Big Timber's history and people, as well as the Crazy Mountains. Highlights include the famous Cremer Rodeo, sheep and wool exhibits, a collection of chaps and cattle brands, and a room dedicated to pioneers that includes artifacts dating from the late 1890s. Mineral Museum: The Museum exhibits 1,300 specimens from its extensive collection of minerals from Butte, Montana, and worldwide localities. The Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology Earthquake Studies Office is also located in the Museum, offering the visitor an opportunity to see active seismographs recording real time data from Montana’s seismic network.
