Endless Winter
To stretch the ski season even further—and enjoy an inimitable skiing experience “at the top of the world”—fill up the tank and head east to the Beartooth Pass. Usually cleared by Memorial Day weekend (depending on snowpack and weather conditions), the pass offers access to thousands of acres of skiable terrain, most of it sitting above 10,000 feet. Chutes, bowls, and headwalls abound, with some north-facing couloirs remaining skiable well into July. To avoid the hike and join other festive summer-skiers, pony up $45 and ride the two pommel lifts at Beartooth Basin Summer Ski Area, which run from the clearing of the pass until the snow’s gone.
