Quake Lake

Quake Lake or officially Earthquake Lake was formed in 1959 after a massive earthquake, registering a magnitude of 7.3 – 7.5on the Richter Scale. The lake was formed by a natural damn when a landslide disrupted flow of the Madison River. Quake Lake located in southwest Montana can be accessed from Highway 287, there is also a visitor center to learn more of the history. Today fishermen enjoy fishing by boat or along the shores of the lake.
