Review: Tenaya Lake
I’ve never been one to drop more than $50 on a pair of sunglasses, but after trying out the Switch Tenaya Lake, my spending limit may just have increased. These sleek, well-made shades fit comfortably and held fast to my face during the most vigorous trail runs and mountain-bike rides. Soft, grippy nose pads and ear stems kept the glasses from moving so much as a millimeter, while the light weight made me forget I was even wearing sunglasses. Ventilation on the Tenya Lake is excellent—the lenses never fogged up, not even during long, hot runs with sweat pouring off my brow. Switch’s Magnetic Interchange lens-swapping system is hands-down the slickest I’ve seen; just pop out one lens and slide in another, letting the integrated magnet pull it right into place. Two lens kits allow for maximum versatility; I tried the Glare Kit, which came with three different lenses. I used the polarized gray lens for fishing and general conditions, the amber lens for shooting, and the low-light rose lens for early-morning or late-afternoon runs and rides. Handy plastic Lens Pods kept the extra lenses safe from scratches. All in all, these are excellent glasses made to hold up during any action sport. One caveat: the Tenaya Lake is made for larger faces, so you normal-sized people (like me) might want to opt for a Tenaya Peak, the Lake’s little sister. $250; switchvision.com.
