Review: Ombraz Azzurro Sunglasses
In the sea of modern sunglasses, the Ombraz Azzurro Armless Sunglass ($195) rise above the rest. Designed for anglers, guides, and water-enthusiasts for use in the harshest water environments, the Azzurro is Ombraz’s first full-wrap performance frame.
Having never tried armless sunglasses I was skeptical at first, but after testing them on a multi-day river trip I was immediately onboard with the style. The lack of arms to pinch under hats and helmets make for all-day comfort while the full wrap provides impressive coverage of the periphery. The strap quickly and easily adjusts and the Azzurros can be hung around the neck or placed into a pocket for added convenience.
One of Ombraz’s most impressive features is the elite optical clarity and durability provided by Zeiss Tri-Pel lenses. I opted for the polarized rose with copper mirror lenses, and the outstanding clarity of the lenses made a difference in reading the river and spotting shallow water as well as sighting fish. The Azzurros won’t be relegated to the boat, however, as I plan to use them for plenty of land-based activities as well.
