Review: NRS Neso Helmet

When picking out a helmet, whether it be for biking, skiing, trail running, or in this case, paddling, you hope it can at least do one thing really well. That one thing, of course, is protect your dome. If that part is covered, most people are okay stopping there, especially as the price tag starts to climb with a growing list of bells and whistles. However, the Neso River Helmet ($80) by NRS does a whole lot more without burning a hole in your wallet.

The first thing you'll notice about the Neso, even before you try it on, is its approachable price point. It comes in at less than half the cost of some other options on the market. And that's not without the comfort and features to back it up. It fits like a glove, with a snug, out-of-sight, out-of-mind feel. Big-headed folks can rejoice as well, thanks to an XL/XXL size option that is notoriously hard to come by.

Rafters, kayakers, packrafters, and canoeists can all appreciate its safety-first, no-frills approach to head protection. I especially like the easy knob adjustment system for dialing in a secure fit, along with the magnetic chin strap buckle that makes taking it on and off a breeze.
