Review: Kuiu PRO G3 Bino Harness
Last year, on a shoulder season elk hunt, I found myself envious of my hunting partners donning their fancy bino harnesses. While I understood their purpose in protecting expensive, quality optics, I figured that my standard Cabella's elastic harness was more than sufficient for the cheap, hand-me-downs I’d inherited from my father. I don't need something to protect my bino's, I just need something to keep 'em on my chest. Boy, was I wrong.
As the snow piled atop the eye pieces, it became increasingly difficult to see through the fogged lenses, rendering my optics useless. Back at the truck, I decided that enough was enough—it was time to find a bino harness of my own. And I'm sure glad I did, as the KUIU Pro G3 Bino Harness has tremendously improved the enjoyability—and efficacy—of my hunts.
The Pro G3 isn’t just your run-of-the-mill bino harness. No sir. It was made by folks who understand that if you want success in the field, your need gear that performs at the top of its class. For one, there’s no noisy Velcro or hook-points on the exterior. Instead, the main compartment opens from the rear with an elastic closure that can be tightened—ensuring your glass stays secure and doesn't come loose while crawling across fields of brush, sage, and scree. The inside is made of soft, scratch-proof fleece, while the outer is made of durable, weatherproof material designed to stand up to even the most abusive conditions.
What initially drew my attention to the Pro G3 was the modular design that allows hunters to customize their kit with add-ons such as bear spray holsters, range finder & wind detector sleeves, and accessory pockets—all of which I’ll probably invest in when the time comes. But for now, the harness alone—with a rail-lock ammo holder that holds six extra rounds for the days when my shooting’s just a bit off—suits me just fine.
