Review: Infinity X1 Hybrid Headlamp

The ever-increasing brightness of modern headlamps never ceases to impress—except when your companion shines that blazing beam in your eyes on a dark night. It's an all-too-common irritation, but one that can be mitigated with the Infinity X1 Hybrid. In addition to several standard modes that put out up to 750 lumens, this nifty headlamp has a "Broadview" option, which sends more diffuse light out in a wide angle from three side-mounted lenses, reducing the impact on your partner's eye sockets. It's also got a dimmer and a red light, for reading maps and performing other tasks without ruining your night vision, plus a red flash for discreet signaling. What's more, the light comes with both standard and rechargeable battery options, so you can choose your own power plan and always have a backup. The grippy strap grabs both hair and hat, remaining secure on your noggin, and the light weight makes the lamp as comfy as any I've worn. The only drawback is the size, which is a tad bulky; but that's a small price to pay for the suite of features this headlamp offers. Available at infinityx1.com; $69.
