Review: GSI Selkirk 540 Camp Stove
There’s nothing better than whipping up a huge mess of hot food after a day spent in the back country. In the same vein, there’s nothing worse than stumbling back to camp only to find that your camp stove wont light, stay lit, or throw enough heat to warm up your grub. After several summers of living out of the bed of my truck, I know a good stove when I see one, and when I first read about the Selkirk 540 2-Burner Camp Stove from GSI, I knew that it was just what I’d been looking for. In all honesty, it works better than the stove at my house.
Both burners run hot, meaning less time cooking and more time grubbin’ out, hangin’ out, and getting’ after it. The matchless ignitor button has saved my arm hair, and is especially helpful when my lighters are empty or wet. It's easy to clean thanks to the removable pot support and stainless-steel basin, and the powder coated exterior is impressively resistant to scratches, scrapes, and dings. Weighing in at 10 lbs, it’s a bit heavy for a backpacking trip, but has served me well on many a river trip and car camping expedition so far. Plus, it fits nicely in my truck drawers. If you’re in the market for a new camp stove, be sure to check out the Selkirk 540 from GSI Outdoors. Available at gsioutdoors.com; $150.
