Review: Lems Trailhead Shoe
More support, less support... which is it? From Hoka to Xero and back again, we never know what's best for our feet—if we believe the "experts," that is. All we know is that Hegel was right: the pendulum always swingeth.
To play it safe, I wear both high-cushion and minimalist shoes, based on the activity. For long runs on pavement, it's Hoka all the way. But for shorter hikes on softer ground, I like the Trailhead Originals from Lems Shoes. These low-cushion kicks let my feet move more naturally, engaging all the muscles, tendons, and other important elements of my lower extremities, just the way nature intended.
The Trailheads have a nice, snug fit; my foot doesn't slip around inside the shoe one bit. The low-profile, grippy sole sticks to my bike pedals nicely, making my ride to the M that much simpler—same shoe for both activities. Off trail, the sole transitions well, which means the Trailhead is a great option for the gym, too. One fewer pair of shoes to lug around, without compromising proper care of my feet? Yes, please.
