Review: Cross Point Gloves & Socks

Waterproof socks can seem undesirably thick, but the even more undesirable alternative is having cold, wet feet trapped where the sun can’t shine to dry ‘em off. Cross Point Gear’s Mountain Sock is the thickest of their waterproof collection. It’s synthetic and durable, with a merino wool liner for complete, insulated warmth. Typically, by the end of only one day in ski or hiking boots, my socks have thinned and my feet can feel deteriorating boot-bottom. The Mountain Sock, however, has terry-loop padding that spans across for longevity. I can wear these socks day after day and still count on them looking (and smelling) like new. Available at crosspointgear.com; $52.

Cross Point’s Pro Wool waterproof knit gloves go hand-in-hand with the Mountain Sock. As someone with self-diagnosed chronic coldness, it’s rare that any glove, be it felt or thick snow mitts, keeps my hands warm all day. Plus, if I take off a glove, the cold rushes in and my hands become one with the winter, unable to be warmed thereafter. The Pro Wool glove, however, has a breathable system throughout the triple-layered fabric, encouraging air to move through while keeping water and snow out. Similar to the socks, the merino wool lines the inside for warmth and is odor-resistant. The palms and fingertips have silicone grips for climbing rocks or any other chilled surface. Available at crosspointgear.com; $59.
