Paint & Poetry: Winter 2025-26
"Blue Bird"
by Tom Leuprecht
These days are unmatched
Never trade them for cash
Sun shines with glee
Tracing the shadows of threes
Upon the snow like hands of a clock
Revealing irregularities of frozen blocks
Blown, thrown, and accumulated
Blue bird days, not faded
Snow scatters colors, prismatic like glitter
Blue light at twilight, monochromatic picture
Freeze thaw your alchemy delights
Creates icicles of lightening bolt might
A skiff of fresh snow
I see where bunny goes
Full moon at clear night
Illuminates the ground so bright
Shadows extend at midnight
"Haven"
by Audrey Steinfeldt
when autumn cedes to winter
like daytime yields to night
all earth-born tones turn white as bone
while God displaces light
seek your shelter early
stoke your hearth’s cold flame
store up sunshine, seal it tight
call your love by name
"Sweet Surrender"
by Noah Davidson
I remember the bitter cold
The small space we had
Frost on the windows in shapes
Moisture in the air from our breath
Afraid we might catch our death
I can still hear the geese call
In the early morning fog
I still feel the cold in the air
The broken furnace
Reluctance to go anywhere
To leave the warmth of the blankets
But most of all
I remember the love we shared
How it warmed my soul from the inside
It kept us alive through the hard times
That is what I remember
Because it makes the bitter
A sweet surrender
