Book: Wildlife Through the Lens
It doesn’t take long in Montana to come across some wildlife: a deer jumping out onto the road, a magpie touching down on a roof, a ground squirrel scurrying away as you walk toward it. And while many animals have adapted to our manufactured urban environments, it’s particularly enjoyable to see those same creatures in their natural habitats. That’s exactly where photographer Lea Frye ventures to find and photograph the fauna of the Rocky Mountain region. In Wildlife Through the Lens (Sweetgrass Books, $33), Lea and her husband, Scot Bealer, artfully pair narratives with imagery, creating a cohesive book packed full of anecdotal accounts, wildlife-spotting tips, and photography advice. It’s a wonderful addition to your bookshelf, whether you’re a photographer, outdoorsperson, or just somebody with an appreciation for our furry and feathery neighbors. Lea reminds us sometimes the best wildlife encounters are just around the corner, so long as you have the patience and awareness to notice them.
