Book: Making Up Amelia
From Spearfish, South Dakota to the islands of the Western Pacific, Making Up Amelia (Yokoi Books, $18) takes the reader on a sweeping journey through time and place, all centered around the disappearance of American aviator Amelia Earhart. Local author and Chronicle columnist (and former O/B contributor) Marjorie Smith expertly weaves together three tales, finally bringing them together on the island of Guam—a place she knows well, from her past career in the U.S. Foreign Service. The book is well-written, with clean, precise prose and a solid narrative structure. Throw in interesting characters and a suspenseful plot, and you’ve got a solid debut novel from one of Bozeman’s own. Available at Country Bookshelf and online at yokoibooks.com.
