If Bozeman isn't the center of the fly-fishing universe, its at least in the right galaxy. Which is why the first annual Ice-Out Guide Event brought over 200 Simms-endorsed guides from as far as Florida, New York, and Alaska right here to the Gallatin Valley for one memorable weekend this past April. Evolving from the annual Fish Bowl, a rockin’ party for the fly fishing industry here at the local bowling alley, this year’s three-day Guide Event included everything from workshops on how to utilize the internet to propel your guide business, to free wader repair. Sunday brought a fishing tournament followed by an entertaining award ceremony with prizes for categories such as smallest trout (won by Zac Sexton with a 3/4-inch rainbow). If you missed it, mark your calendar for next year—and start shining your gutterball.
