About
Emigrant Peak is a formidable mountain in the North Absaroka Range (aka, Western Beartooths), towering over Paradise Valley and the tiny town of Emigrant. The ascent is relentless from the start—this is a trail for fit hikers only. The trail passes through timber and meadows at the lower elevations; after parallelling a long livestock fence, the trail fades and soon disappears. Just keep hiking up. Above treeline, follow the northwest ridge, scrambling over rocks and scree, past several false peaks, until you reach the summit. Carry bear spray.

 Seasonal Conditions
Be aware of afternoon thunderstorms during the summer months—this 10,000-plus-foot peak is a veritable lightning rod. During the winter, skiers can hike up for sweet turns off multiple faces; just be aware and knowledgable of avalanche conditions. 

Directions
From Livingston, head south on Hwy. 89 to Emigrant. Turn left and cross the bridge, then make a right at the stop sign onto East River Rd. Head south for a few miles and turn left on Sixmile Creek Rd. Follow this gravel road for approximately four miles until you reach a left-hand turn heading up toward the peak. Turn here (if you hit Dailey Lake, you'll know you missed it), head through the gate, and up into the Sixmile Creek drainage. At the sign for the Gold Prize Creek trailhead, turn left and continue to the parking area (A).
