Review: Smith Code

For the last ten years, I’ve been using Smith goggles. And in that time, the company has introduced dozens of integrated products, meaning the fit of their helmets matches the fit of their goggles. This winter, I wanted to take advantage of that integration, so I got myself the Code helmet. I wanted something straightforward and minimalist, but didn’t want to skimp on features and safety.

Thus far, the Code has delivered, but luckily I haven’t had the opportunity to fully test its impact-dampening capabilities. What I do know is that the helmet fits well; its Boa system is completely adjustable and the knit liner provides added comfort. Smith’s innovative chinstrap system only requires one hand to operate, so now I don’t have to put my beer down or fumble with my gloves get my brain-bucket off.

The Code includes all of Smith’s top-end safety features, as well, for added confidence in those rock-lined chutes off the Ridge.
