Review: Helinox Chair Two

When heading into the backcountry, I've always shied away from bringing unnecessary weight, including a camp chair of any kind. That's what logs and rocks are for, right? However, my stubbornness invariably leaves me envious of my fellow campers, who are all in their cozy, collapsible chairs. This summer, I decided it was time to offer my back and tired legs a reprieve from damp logs and poky rocks, so I gave Helinox's Chair Two a try.

The Chair Two is now my go-to outdoor chair, whether I'm backpacking, car camping, or heading out on a multi-day river float. Thanks to the corded poles, it takes me less than a minute to set up (two minutes on a bad day), making quick work of getting cozy at camp. The tall back and headrest flaps are a luxury to my back and neck, so I can sit back and relax by the fire, river, or even at the park on a day around town.

The chair weighs just under three pounds and packs down small, so I hardly notice the additional weight when strapped onto my backpack. Helinox has made finding a comfortable seat outside as easy and convenient as can be.

Available at helinox.com; $130.
