Join two of America’s leading wildlife experts, Dr. Doug Smith and Dr. Chris Servheen, as they explore the past, present, and future of wolves and grizzly bears in Montana, highlighting the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of us. The conversation will be moderated by renowned environmental journalist, Todd Wilkinson.

Grizzly bear and wolf recovery are among the greatest conservation success stories. As Montana pushes to assume management of grizzly bears, it’s vital to assess the state’s preparedness and the lessons we’ve learned from their history of wolf management. This rare opportunity to hear directly from experts who have spent decades on the frontlines of these recovery efforts is not one to miss.

About the speakers:

  • Dr. Doug Smith led the Yellowstone Wolf Project, overseeing the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone National Park. With nearly 30 years of experience in the park, Doug has studied everything from beavers to birds and has been featured in numerous National Geographic specials..
  • Dr. Chris Servheen was the Grizzly Bear Recovery Coordinator for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for 35 years, overseeing all research and management of grizzly bears in the lower 48 states. Chris played a key role in the successful recovery and delisting efforts of the Yellowstone grizzly population and has worked internationally on bear conservation.

Hosted by the Montana Wildlife Federation, National Parks Conservation Association, the Cinnabar Foundation, and the Gallatin Wildlife Association. This event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.
