More Than You Can Chew
Sometimes the food chain doesn’t look quite right.
You’ve probably seen a couple of ants with a beetle
in tow, a spider with a grasshopper. “You bite
off more than you can chew. You might be little
but your eyes are big.” That’s what Grandma used
to say when fried rabbit covered up my plate
or I ripped a drumstick from the turkey. In the news
from Florida, I saw where a python ate
an alligator twice its size then blew up.
Some bass can open their heads so wide
they can eat another bass or even a duck.
Some proverb says gluttony’s a deadly sin. I’d
have to say I just can’t get behind it.
It’s all just protein, and protein is where you find it.
