Niegard, Ian

Like most anglers, I'm always looking for the perfect do-it-all boat – one that's compact, stable, performs well on both rivers and lakes, and can get into those hard-to-reach honey holes, yet doesn't weigh more than my dad's Winnebago. Hobie's new Pro Angler may be just the ticket, with its manageable 138 pounds (fully rigged), 600-pound capacity, and super-stable design. The burly carrying handles and built-in skid pads allowed me to easily pull the boat on and off my truck without throwing my back out, and the ample rod storage let me prepare for any type of fishing that might come my way. Front and rear storage areas offered plenty of room for stashing food, waders, and extra clothing. My pooch enjoyed lounging on the spacious rear deck, and the padded seat kept my hiney cramp-free. I particularly liked the MirageDrive feature; it's a handy foot-pedal propulsion system that left my hands free to stand up and cast, reach into the built-in tackle boxes, and best of all, grab a cold one from the cooler. $2,200; hobiefishing.com.
