This is a solid point-to-point hike; just be sure to leave a car at the Sypes Canyon trailhead to avoid being stranded. To start, take the left-hand trail from the M trailhead and stay left at the junction, which becomes the Bridger Foothills Trail. Continue on nice switchbacks to an open meadow, after which the trail rolls into the woods. Hike on the well-maintained trail through the trees for several miles before descending steeply into a shaded drainage, then immediately climbing up to the Sypes Canyon ridge. The trail opens up here, and it's a scenic descent to a trail marker three miles from the Sypes trailhead. Hang a right at this overlook and continue down to the trailhead. Be aware of mountain bikers as this is a popular two-wheeler loop.

Directions: From town, take Rouse Ave. to Bridger Canyon Rd.; continue a couple miles and turn left into the signed "M" trailhead parking lot on the left.

Cool hike from one popular trailhead to another. Best way is to get a friend and start from opposite directions, then swap keys at the mid-point. Meet at the Bozone afterward to swap cars and share a beer.

Fun area to run between to get a little trail-running training in. Mixes it up from just running the M or just running Sypes. Just keep in mind that you'll have to run both directions if you're not prepared.

I like this trail as a solo training hike/walk/jog out and back to the intersection with the Sypes Canyon trail (Sypes 'T'). Instead of going down into Sypes Canyon, one can take a snack and enjoy the views before turning back; continue on the Foothills Trail to the next intersection with the Cottonwood (?) trail, or even turn east (up) and head up the steep climb to Baldy.

The total distance from the M to Sypes Canyon trailheads is approximately 7.5 miles; elevation gain about 1800ft, starting and ending at 5,000ft. Good mix of grinds, switchbacks, and flats. Beautiful views of the valley in several places.

Correction: The actual distance from trailhead to trailhead is 6.7 miles.

What's your take?

So, what do you REALLY think?
